Orion and her daughter Adele. 

As many of you know, Orion is our herd queen. She now has four daughters on this farm and even more granddaughters (and great grand daughters!). While she is an outstanding milker with superlative behavior on the milking platform she is also an incredibly hearty goat that never complains. She barely utters a peep, and when she does it is a heart breaking little sad cry. You very rarely hear it. Above all though she is a super mother. She comes up to the milking platform without fail in the last line each time, Adele at her side. She is a majestic lady that we owe a great debt to. We were very lucky to have Orion as our first goat.

Three years ago this week Fern & Orion (shown here with Orion’s daughter Adele) arrived on the mountain–our very first goats. Big Picture Farm was born!

Three years later, these ladies have committed this land to memory and heart, and we couldn’t be luckier to have such incredibly loyal and loving goats as the matriarch’s of our herd (doesn’t hurt that they’re extraordinary milkers, either :). 

You thought flowers were for decoration? Nope. Flowers are for snacking.

They are up and about now. Meet snow. Meet sky. Meet sun.
